Uttar Pradesh : In order to highlight the plight of Aanganwadi workers, a worker found a unique idea. She married CM Yogi Adityanath’s photo to draw his attention. Their demands stonewalled for a long time by the state government, Anganwadi workers in Uttar Pradesh have devised a new way to put pressure on the powers that be.
According to reports, last week in Sitapur four women were booked under sedition charges for allegedly stoping CM Yogi’s convoy, earlier these women, including anganwadi worker Neetu Singh, had performed mock wedding and married a photograph of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
While yogi was on his way to a function in Naimisharanya shrine in the district, the women’s were alleged for trying to block the chief minister’s convoy and the women have been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.
Before sending to jail Netu, who is the district president of Mahila Anganwadi Karmachari said to reporters that, she simply wanted to talk to higher authorities and convey their problem but has been charged with sedition. Adding to it, “Through this marriage we thought around four lakh sisters will benefit. I even wanted to go to the chief minister’s house on a horse to draw his attention to our plight”
However police have dropped stringent sedition charges, IPC section 121A (conspiring to wage, or attempt to wage war, or abet waging of war against the government of India) that was “wrongly invoked” against all the four Anganwadi workers, reported Indian Express.
