The man who staked his life in an encounter with terrorists in Bandipore is still battling for life. He is critical but stable. CRPF Commanding Officer of the 45th battalion, Chetan Kumar Cheetah, who was shot multiple bullets during the encounter and was airlifted from Srinagar to AIIMS Trauma Center in Delhi for further treatment. Today army chief General Bipin Rawat had also gone to visit him at the hospital.

According to a report in The Week, CRPF chief K Durga Prasad said that without waiting, the commandant of the paramilitary force went with the Army, when he got information from the J&K police about two terrorists hiding in the village. In an operation, the trooper led from the front and fired sixteen rounds even after he sustained injuries, and his bravery resulted in the death of top Lashkar commander Abu Musaib.
Amid escalating tension across the border in Kashmir, three soldiers and one militant were killed in an encounter in Hajin area of Bandipora district of Kashmir. Six other security personnel and a civilian also suffered injuries in the gun-battle that began in the wee hours today, a police official said.
Security forces cordoned off Parray Mohalla in Hajin area this morning following information about presence of militants there, the official said. He said a gun-battle broke out as the security forces were closing in on the position of the militants. Nine security personnel were injured in the exchange of firing with the militants out of which three later succumbed to injuries.
