KANPUR: As the New Year has dawned upon, certain new things are taking place around us. A very landmark judgement by the country’s apex court has come. It bowls out the BCCI boss.  It may be startling for him but it was to happen as experts point out. Much change is going to take place in the cricket control board now.

A free verse,”If U want 2017 to be your best year, then wake up, don’t think too much about useless things; don’t give up; avoid fake friends to be with you; smile more. Be excited and do new things; don’t expect something from someone. Be special. Do things which challenge you. Good Luck!” appears apt for this occasion. A kind of cleaning up procedures for the gentleman’s game cannot be restricted.

The latest judgement of the apex court in regard to the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has given a new hope with confidence.

The Court has indicated the Board to not to think much about politics. It has fired the existing president and secretary. All office-bearers who have not followed the Lodha Panel recommendations told to demit office. Even a show cause notice has been issued to Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirkey and asked why they should not be tried for perjury and contempt.

Those who were fighting for cleaning the board look quite relaxed with the judgement. Even the petitioner, who initiated this fight for the removal of the dark clouds hovering over the bosses of the board is delighted at this order.

Though he, in his reactions to the TV news channels, said that he never thought of such day as his fight was for raising the standard of sports in Bihar, third largest state in the country.
Cricketers like Bishen Singh Bedi, Surinder Khanna, Kirti Azad, Ayaz Menon and various others are gladly welcoming the court’s order for its landmark judgement. They think the state cricket bodies will also follow the change coming forthwith.

The Court’s order embarks on a kind of Swacchta Abhiyan in the Board of Cricket for Control in India by making the vital move. The Board’s president and the secretary have got a clear message that none is above the Supreme Court; they need to understand it now. How can perjury & contempt be possible?

The Lodha Commission recommendations are now going to be followed in toto. Even Justice RM Lodha has expressed his satisfaction in this judgement by calling it a victory for the game of cricket. He said that the Court had more or less given a serious thinking to his suggestions. Two or three points were probably left.

Politicians need not be a part of this sports body which could be run only by the sportspersons. The next hearing in another half of this month will clear the position more clearly. Gopal Subramanium and Fali Nariman will now suggest names for an interim committee.
