For the Govt, 2 hours movie has more importance than Muslim women’s fundamental rights : Asaduddin Owaisi

New Delhi : AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad’s Member of Parliament Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed BJP Government’s new controversial Bill on Triple Talaq, Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, which criminalises Muslim men for announcing Talaq-e-biddat (instant talaq).

Mr Owaisi tweeted “For a bloody film of 2 hours consultation is done with organisations but when it comes to empowerment and justice for Muslim Women no consultation but by brute majority badly drafted ,flawed and bill which violates Fundamental rights is bulldozed

Mr Owaisi had opposed the Bill in Parliament on Thursday, he had argued that if a Muslim man divorces his wife by saying the word ‘talaq’ thrice, it is a crime and should be stopped, but “there is no empirical data to support the argument that it is such a big social evil that harms society“. He also questioned logic for jail term in the Bill. “How will a man who has been jailed for uttering ‘triple talaqprovide allowance/compensation  to his wife from prison?“. However the Bill was passed by lower house.

BJP government showed their helplessness infront of Rajputs community who were protesting against the upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’ which will now release with 26 cuts and 4 additional changes which was possible after CBFC invited historians, Royal family to review the movie.  BJP government earlier congeed to ban the release of movie in several BJP ruled states, whilst on other hand the same government passed the Triple Talaq Bill in Lower House without any consultation from the Muslim Community.

The bill was neither released in the public domain nor it was discussed. The law minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, handed over the bill to members of Parliament to pass while calling it a historic bill.

Several eminent people slammed the government for passing the Bill like a bulldozer on a community. Senior advisors Indira Jaising said “Shameful display of brute force passing the TT Bill turning muslim husbands into criminals , this is not what we fought for in the Supreme Court of India

Several law personnels have called this Bill a disaster for Muslim Women, as it may destroy the window for reconciliation between husband and wife, which was happening till now.
