Kerala : Police Complaint Against Republic TV investor Rajeev Chandershekar over Fake Tweet

Kerala NDA Vice-Chairman, Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the owner of Republic and Asianet News, has landed himself in a huge controversy, after retweeting a tweet which passed off an attack by CPI-M workers.

A police complaint has now been filed against him, demanding action under section 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) for promoting enmity between different groups. The complaint was filed by a DFYI District Secretary of Kannur seeking action against Chandrasekhar for allegedly spreading false reports through social media on May 13. The original tweet was by an user called Jayakrishnan(@gavarkar5200) on May 13.

The tweet claimed that ambulance was carrying the body of RSS worker Biju, who was murdered two days back, when it was attacked by “marxists”. The news reports from the day proved that the attack on the ambulance was by RSS workers as a part of Harthal that they had called in kannur. The CCTV footage from the hospital lobby shows a large group of RSS workers attacking the ambulance.

However, as the CCTV visuals spread online, the original tweet by Jayakrishan as well as retweet by Chandrasekhar disappeared from their timelines. A day later Jayakrishnan’s twitter account also disappeared. The suspense is that, the fact hasn’t yet discovered that who is behind the original account, from which Rajeev Chandrasekhar retweeted.

After, the complaint was filed, Rajeev tweeted saying- ” Amused by Left’s Govt’s continued attempt to intimidate me. I am not and will not be cowed”. The propaganda thus created aims to increase RSS activists enmity against CPM and to disrupt peace in the state. Hence, a case must be registered under section 153(A), the complaint claimed.
