After conducting searches at various places, three were taken into custody by Thursday evening, sources said.

Riyas, a 30-year-old from Kodagu in Karnataka, who had no criminal record was hacked to death in his retiring room attached to a mosque at Choori in Kasaragod town. He found Riyas lying in a pool of blood, his throat slit.

The incident had triggered communal tension in Kasaragod and surrounding areas. Muslim League had called for a hartal in Kasaragod the very next day to which police authority took prohibitive measures to avoid any untoward incident. To avert further flare-ups, the body was taken directly from Kannur, where the autopsy took place, to Karnataka.
