Mumbai: Mumbai Police arrested the man who threatened to rape Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi’s 10-year-old daughter on Social Media from Gujarat today, a team of Mumbai police reached Ahmedabad and arrested one Girish Maheshwari.

He has been charged under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), further more sections of IT Act as his threat was delivered via Twitter – and some other provisions of the Indian penal Code.

The arrest comes two days after the Union Home Ministry directed the Mumbai police to file a case against the person who issued rape threats to the Congress spokesperson’s daughter. The ministry had also asked Twitter to prove details of the account user @GirishK1605.

On Sunday, Girish Maheshwari had tweeted a disgusting threat to rape Priyanka Chaturvedi’s 10-year-old daughter. The tweet was brought down following an outrage.

The Congress spokeswoman mentioned in her complaint that the then unidentified Twitter troll, despite using an image of Lord Ram in his profile picture on Twitter, made such a vile threat.

“Despite having a picture of Lord Ram as his profile picture, the accused did not hesitate from making such remarks,” Chaturvedi tweeted.

After being arrested, Girish claimed that he got enraged after seeing a fake post in which Chaturvedi was quoted as supporting the man accused of rape in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh recently. Several Facebook pages have circulated that fake quote of Priyanka Chaturvedi on Mandsaur Rape case.

Not just Priyanka Chaturvedi but several other Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi have been targetted with fake malicious quotes related to horrific rape of minor in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh.
