Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, Modi said, “Aaj ghareeb chain ki neend so raha hai aur ameer neend ki goliyan dhoond rahe hain.”

Opposition slams PM Modi remarks

Terming Modi’s comments an insult to poor, West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee said, “PM said poor are sleeping peacefully. This is an insult to commoners and in bad taste. Do not to hit common people like this.”

The CPI-M’s general secretary, Sitaram Yechury too mocked the prime minister for his use of ‘poor are sleeping peacefully’ remarks.

Modi’s comments come even as millions of ordinary public have been queuing up outside banks and ATMs all throughout days and nights. Far from sleeping, they have been staying awake in their desperation to withdraw their hard earned money from banks.

Modi on Sunday had also allegedly mocked those standing in queues by accusing them of having committed scams.

The party supporters had later clarified that his scam-tainted jibe was meant for Rahul Gandhi.
