According to NDTV, the incident took place on Tuesday at the Umaid hospital in Jodhpur, one of the biggest hospital in the city.
Ashok Nainwal and ML Tak, the two doctors hurled abuses during an emergency caesarean surgery scheduled because of the feeble heartbeat of the foetus. It appears to have started when Dr Nainwal, the obstetrician, questioned whether the patient had eaten before the operation. The anaesthetist, Dr Tak, reportedly tried to have a junior doctor carry out tests, which Dr Nainwal didn’t agree with.
“You stay within your aukat (limits),” Dr Nainwal, in green scrubs and surgery gear, is seen shouting at the anaesthetist.
It quickly degenerated into shouting and name-calling, except the location was not the street but an operation theatre, with a critical patient. A nurse and another doctor are seen trying to stop them and remind them that a surgery was on.
Dr Nainwal and Dr Tak have both been suspended and Rajasthan high court has asked for a report on the incident by 2 pm on Wednesday, ANI reported.
“Dr Nanival was appointed an assistant professor on urgent/ temporary basis. The medical education department has to power to terminate such appointments. For Dr Tak, who is a senior professor, the action will be taken by the DOP,” said Dr Amilal Bhat, principal of Dr SN Medical College and controller of Umaid hospital.
According to Hindustan Times, Dr Bhat said the two doctors were removed immediately after the issue was reported to him. “I recommended disciplinary action against the two to the government and formed an enquiry committee for further probe.”
The probe panel is headed by Dr Desai and comprises head of anaesthesia Prof UD Sharma and paediatrician Dr Rakesh Jora as members.
“We recorded statements of everyone present in the OT during the spat until 1 am Tuesday night and are preparing a report to submit to the principal,” Desai said.
