GORAKHPUR : Dr Kafeel Ahmed Khan who was hailed as ‘messiah’ for his efforts to save dying children in Baba Raghav Das Medical College hospital had already been removed from Hospital duties by authorities week ago.
Now, Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested him today from Gorakhpur district. Kafeel was in-charge of 100-bed anti-encephalitis syndrome ward at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.
He was named as accused in the FIR lodged by the UP government in connection with deaths of 30 children on August 10 and 11.
Dr. Kafeel who were believed to be hero for saving hundreds of lives, rushed to the clinics of his doctor friends and brought around 12 oxygen cylinders in his car ”While others doctors gave up hope, Dr Khan managed the situation well by arranging oxygen cylinders from private nursing homes. He saved many lives by his efforts and presence of mind,” said Gaurav Tripathi, an eyewitness had told source.
According to news published on TOI ,Principal of college Mr Rajiv Mishra and his wife Purnima Shukla had been arrested earlier, were Kafeel managed to be on the run.
A total of nine persons were named by director general of medical education KK Gupta in his complaint on the basis of which the none were made accused in the FIR.
The remaining six which include director of Pushpa Sales Pvt Ltd, the vendor which supplied liquid oxygen to the hospital, remain in the run.
DIG STF Manoj Tiwari said that police teams got some leads from Kafeel’s family in Lucknow and checked a house on outskirts of the city in Gorakhpur.
After a detailed inquiry, the group was found guilty of abetting culpable homicide of children besides other charges.
