Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh : Tension prevailed after unidentified miscreants on Sunday vandalised the statue of dalit icon Bhim Rao Ambedkar in a village of Azamgarh sparking tension, police said. The incident happened in Taibapur village in Jahanagunj area agency reports.
Tension ran high in the village on Monday morning after the locals discovered Ambedkar’s statue hand broken by unknown miscreants, local BSP leaders along with villagers staged a protest denouncing the incident. The agitated villagers tried to block the road but Police Authorities made them calm after immediately calling for repair and citing School Exams hours, soon peace was restored.
Additional Superintendent Police R B Singh assured to take action against the miscreants, he said on the basis of complaint filed by locals, FIRs have been lodged under various sections of the IPC, including 153-A (promoting enmity between groups), 295 (injuring or defiling places of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 427 (mischief causing damage). No arrests have been made so far.
