Uttarakhand : UP ATS arrested suspected ISI agent Ramesh Kanyal


Pithoragarh : The Indian Army Intelligence and Uttar Pradesh Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested an Inter-Services Intelligence agent from Didihat area of Uttar Pradesh’s Pithoragarh. Uttrakhand ADG law and order Ashok Kumar told reporters that Uttar Pradesh ATS with the help of Pithoragarh Police arrested Ramesh Kanyal from his home.

This comes just after a week when Indian diplomat for Pakistan was pronounced guilty for spying. Mrs Gupta, posted as second secretary, press and information eight years ago, was arrested on April 22, 2010, by the Delhi police’s special cell under the Official Secrets Act on charges of revealing classified information to Pakistani officials Mubshar Raza Rana and Jamshed through journalist Javed Rashid.

Ramesh Kanyal’s brother is serving in the Indian Army. A few years back Kanyal’s brother helped in getting up a job in Brigadier’s house. The Brigadier after some time got a posting in Indian Embassy in Pakistan. He also took Kanyal along with him. Therein Pakistan, the agent came in contact with intelligence agencies and started passing confidential information to the agencies. Kanyal spent two years in Pakistan.

UP ATS filed a case against the agent on May 20. The ATS and the Indian Army were consistently keeping track of Kanyal’s activities. Today morning joint team of the Indian Army and the UP ATS raided his house in Didihat in Pithoragarh. The ADG told reporters that continuous inputs about whereabouts of Kanyal were also taken from the Uttrakhand Intelligence.
