Kanpur : A Sub Inspector(SI) and two other policemen, were badly injured while controlling a crowd of protesters, who allegedly damaged several vehicles at Barra Highway on Saturday. The crowd was said to have gathered to protest the rape of a teenage girl.
The protesters were canvassing and demanding strict action against the Jagriti Hospital where the victim was allegedly raped by a hospital ward boy. The arraigned was put behind the bars on Friday soon after the FIR was lodged. But the crowd gathered at the public road, and was fraining the government demanding immediate sealing of the hospital.
The Police had to facilitated to lathi charge so as to disperse the crowd, following which protesters resorted to stone-pelting. The policemen sustained injuries, in the violence, DIG Sonia Singh confirmed.
A Senior Police Officer from the Fazalganj’s Police Station said, the police resorted to lathi charge so as to control and disperse the protesters from disrupting traffic, as the highway was one of the busiest ones, which would have caused inconvenience to commuters.
The policemen misbehaved with women demonstrators which led to altercation a protester said blaming police as the cause for violation.
