New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a group of kanwariyas went on a rampage spree after one of the kanwariya recieved minor brushed by woman car driver as they were walking on the road blocking all the way, near Moti Nagar on Tuesday evening.
According to The Hindu report, the police said a PCR call was received around 5.30 p.m. about the violence. When the police reached the spot, the mob had fled. Although two cops can be seen in the video, it is unclear if they were traffic police. The police added that the car was found turned sideways near Moti Nagar metro station when they reached the spot. Enquiry revealed that the car belonged to a police officer’s daughter who had allegedly brushed past a kanwariya.
“As soon as he got hit, other kanwariyas gathered and started arguing with the woman and her friend. As the kanwariyas rose in number, both of them fled, leaving the car behind,” said a senior officer.
The anguished kanwariyas vandalised the car with sticks and iron rods and turned it on its side. What’s even more shocking is that two police cops, who were present at the scene did nothing to stop them. The driver of the car, a woman and her husband, managed to escape before they got hurt by the frenzy mob. Eyewitnesses said the kanwariyas were blocking the road almost completely, and the car touched the bag of a kanwariya, leading to the altercation which turned violent.
The men even tried to set fire to the car and hurled stones at the couple who had taken shelter at a shop nearby. Police said the locals managed to straighten the vehicle, which was then towed to a police station, however, till late night the car owner did not give a complaint to cops. Police said they were convincing the couple to record their statements so they could initiate legal action.
Few days ago on 2nd August, Kanwanriyas burnt down the truck and created ruckus in Bahadrabad block of Haridwar district over the death of a 12-year-old Kanwariya, who was run over by a truck.
