Watch: Video of Meerut cops assaulting girl over inter-faith relationship goes viral


Meerut: A bizarre and shocking video went viral on social media in which four police officers, including a female cop can be seen abusing a young girl with communal slurs and being repeatedly slapped by the female cop, the girl was earlier rescued from VHP fringes who created ruckus after she was found with a Muslim youth on Sunday in Jagriti Vihar area, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Police had to face flake soon after the video went viral, ADG Meerut Prashant Kumar released statement saying all four cops involved were suspended, he said “All four cops, including lady constable and Homeguard, suspended. Will not tolerate such rogue behaviour of cops”. However social media was flooded with outrage against the communal mindset of the cops involved.

This incident is reported to happened on Sunday when the inter faith couple were riding on bike when Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha leader caught them and tried to interrogate  He was allegedly roughed up by the relatives of couple.

He reached the police station and raised a complaint, the VHP goons dragged the couple to police station and demanded an FIR soon after arriving at the station, VHP members created a ruckus and raised slogans against cops for “ignoring cases of love jihad”.

By now, a group of journalists had reached the station. Asked why they were harassing two consenting adults, VHP’s Meerut region chief Manish Kumar said, “What freedom are you talking about? We won’t let such things happen in the name of freedom.”

The protesters also asked photographers present there to click pictures of the couple and “expose” the duo. Surprisingly, while no charges were pressed against the right-wing men, the couple was detained and their parents were called to the police station. “We took the couple in detention and called the girl’s parents. We felt that there could be a possibility that the girl was acting under pressure and we wanted to rule that out by speaking to her parents,” Meerut SP (city) Ranvijay Singh said.
