West Bengal: Two Muslim youth, both aged 19 years old, named Anwar Hussain and Hafizul Sheikh were brutally lynched by an angry mob in Dadon village about 15 kms from Dhupguri town, West Bengal.

Both of them were travelling in a van carrying seven cows along with the driver. The incident took place around 3 am when the van lost its way and kept circling the area. The noise of vehicle alerted the people in the area who tried to encircle the vehicle. The driver is reported to run away and the mob got hold of two young men. They were lynched.

“The bodies have been sent for post mortem and we have started an investigation,” said a senior police officer of Jalpaiguri district.

The police reached the site and found the van carrying them was badly damaged. They took the two Muslim youth to the Dhupgiri hospital but they were declared dead. Police said that it is not known if the two Muslim youth were registered cattle traders or cow thieves (As if being cow thieves will compensate for the loss of lives).

Police is also not sure if the lynching was done by mob or was organised by some cow vigilantes group (cow terrorist group to be factual).

On condition of being anonymous one police official has reported that in recent past these cow vigilantes have become very active in some parts of North Bengal.

According to the statement by the driver, who escaped the attack, the group lost its way while passing through the area and started driving in circles.

“Probably, that alerted local villagers, who first tried to stop the van. When the driver tried to dodge them and speed out, the villagers blocked the way and forced them to stop. Though the driver somehow managed to escape, the two victims could not and were ultimately lynched by the angry villagers”, a police officer said.

This the second case of cow-related lynching in West Bengal in the last two months after three Muslim youth were beaten to death in June.

The incidents of lynching have increased since the BJP government has come into power and the Prime Minister is accused of protecting such cow vigilante groups. The civil society has been demanding Manav Suraksha Kanoon but the government has not taken notice of it. Its shameful that mostly muslims are lynched in name of cow.
