While Indian Cricket team received humiliating defeat in ICC finals, Hockey saved the honour


The much awaited final match of ICC Champions Trophy was played between India and Pakistan today . India won the toss and opted to field first,though the pitch at The Oval presented perfect batting conditions.

Jaspreet Bumrah struck in third over of the innings getting F.Zaman caught behind,only to be given a no ball later. Pakistan lost their first wicket at 128 with Azhar getting run out on 59. The Pakistani batsmen did not stop and went on to make a mammoth 338-4 ,all credits to centurion F.Zaman (114) and quick fire 57* from Hafeez.

While chessing the score, team India struggle to score but they lost first wicket of Rohit sharma in first over which lead to a pressure for team india. However Hardik Pandya had got other thoughts and scored a magnificent 76 off 43 ballswhich included 4 boundaries and 6 massive sixes. He hit spinner Shadab Khan for 25 runs in an over that included 3 sixes and a boundary. Just when Indian fans had started seeing a ray of hope , a miscommunication got both Pandya and Jadeja reaching the same side,resulting in Pandya’s run out. Later it was just a matter of time when Indian innings got wrapped up at 158 runs,Pakistan winning by a huge margin of 180 runs.


However,for sports enthusiasts there still was a good news with India thrashing Pakistan 7-1 in pool B contest of Hockey. India scored 3 goals in first half and 4 in second.

Akashdeep Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Talwinder Singh scored tow goals each as India defeated Pakistan 7-1 in their FIH Hockey World League Semifinal encounter. The India-Pakistan rivalry was not limited to ICC Champions Trophy final on Sunday as the two countries also face each other in the FIH Hockey World League in London. India, who have got a direct entry to both the Hockey World League Final and the World Cup as hosts, experimented with their team while Pakistan’s chances of reaching the quarterfinals are almost gone.
